Not every blogger who is a member of any BUMPZee! blog community and of course blogs that are not registered in BUMPzee! have the familar button installed on their blog (which you can see to the right) to make it easy for you to "bump it".
For this reason did I create the "Bump This!" bookmarklet, which allows you to "bump" any blog post via a single click on your brower bar or browser favorites.
The bookmarklet opens a new browser window that you keep the original page open and lets you continue there once you are finished at BUMPzee.
As I already mentioned, it is possible to "bump" pages that are not registered with BUMPzee!. In this case will a form appear that asks you to enter some information about the page, such as title and a brief description.
To add the BUMPzee! "Bump This Bookmarklet" to your bookmarks do the following:
Mozilla Firefox: Drag and drop the BUMPzee! logo onto your bookmarks toolbar.
Or Right-click on the BUMPzee! logo and "Bookmark this link".
Internet Explorer: Right-click on this link and press "Add to Favorites"
Apple Safari: Drag and drop the BUMPzee! logo onto the bookmarks toolbar.
[DEFAULT] BASEURL=http://www.bumpzee.com [InternetShortcut] URL=javascript:d=new%20Date();void(window.open('http://www.bumpzee.com/bump.php?
u='+encodeURIComponent(location.href),'w'+d.getTime()))
Make sure that there is no line break if you add it to your code. The breaks in the code below were only added to make it fit on the page.
Do you want to have BUMPzee! as another search option in your Google Toolbar? No problem. Simply click on the button below. This feature requires the Google Toolbar, which is available for free for Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. You can download the latest version of the toolbar here.
Note: The custom BUMPzee! button is configured to search blog entries at BUMPzee.com.
To install a custom button to the Google Toolbar:
Create a button XML file as shown in the previous (and following) sections.
Save the button's XML file at:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Custom Buttons\G-Bumpzee-Toolbar.xml
where username is your Windows login name and filename is the file name you choose to give the XML file.
For example, for login name "John", save the button's XML file at:
C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Custom Buttons\G-Bumpzee-Toolbar.xml
To save the XML file right mouse click here and select "save as". Select the directory location as described and press "Save".
Then open a new Internet Explorer window with Google Toolbar installed. A new button appears with a question mark image. Clicking the question mark icon goes to BUMPzee.com.
To add BUMPzee! to your Microsoft Internet Explorer Search Providers click on:
This feature requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher. It does not work with IE on the Mac, Firefox, Opera or Safari browsers. You can download Internet Explorer 7.0 here, if you use an older version of Internet Explorer and would like to upgrade.
If you are using Mozilla Firefox, check out the BUMPzee Search Extension for Firefox. Versions 1.0 to 2.0 are supported. The extension is being provided by WebStractions.com.
Do you have a Website and want to host the little Gadgets yourself? No problem, below are the detailed instructions for how to do it. I would appreciate a link to cumbrowski.com and the mentioning of my name somewhere on your site as a way of saying thank you for providing this stuff. Thank you.
Also check out the offical Badgets and Widgets and the create a Widget tool, which are available at BUMPzee.com.
To offer the "Bump This" bookmarklet is simple. Just copy the HTML code below into your HTML code. Instead of the ancor text used in the text link, could you also use an image for the drag and drop option as I explained above.
<A title="Bump This" href="javascript:d=new%20Date();void(window.open
('http://www.bumpzee.com/bump.php?u='+encodeURIComponent(location.href),'w'+d.getTime()))">
this link</A>
Make sure that there is no line break if you add it to your code. The breaks in the code below were only added to make it fit on the page.
Do you want to offer your visitors to add BUMPzee! to their Google Toolbar? Here is what you have to do.
Copy the code below and save it into a file with the name "G-Bumpzee-Toolbar.xml" and copy that file into the root of your website where you want to make this feature available.
You can also get the XML code here in text format and save that. Make sure that you rename the saved file from .txt to .xml.

It automatically includes the 16x16 BUMPZee! icon in base64 encoded format. The icon looks like this
You might want to change the "update" URL from "cumbrowski.com" to your domain, but you don't have to :).
The default search is for entries. To change that, modify the <Url> attribute. Search for the "template" property with the BUMPzee.com URL as value. The URL has a parameter called "category" like this: ..&category=entries...
Following values are valid for "category":
Paste the code below into the HTML page where you want the button that installs the custom Google Toolbar to appear. You must replace www.domain.com with your websites domain. The rest can remain the same unless you do not store the XML file "G-Bumpzee-Toolbar.xml", which is shown in step 3, in the root of your website or if you save it with a different file name.
Make sure that there is no line break if you add it to your code. The breaks in the code below were only added to make it fit on the page.
<FORM style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 0px" action=http://toolbar.google.com/buttons/add method=get> <INPUT type=hidden value=http://www.domain.com/G-Bumpzee-Toolbar.xml name=url> <INPUT type=submit value="Add to Google Toolbar"></FORM>
If you want to offer your users to add BUMPzee! to their Internet Explorer 7 Search Providers, here is what you need to do. The feature requires three components. 1. the HTML code just like above for the user to click on, 2. some JavaScript code that triggers the installation process and 3. A XML file with the Search Provider configuration option that is used by Internet Explorer to configure the provider in the users browser.
Paste the code below into the HTML page where you want the link that installs the search provider to appear. You must replace www.domain.com with your websites domain. The rest can remain the same unless you do not store the XML file "IE7-Bumpzee-SearchProvider.xml", which is shown in step 3, in the root of your website or if you save it with a different file name.
Make sure that there is no line break if you add it to your code. The breaks in the code below were only added to make it fit on the page.
<a href="#" onclick="IE7Add2SP('http://www.domain.com/IE7-Bumpzee-SearchProvider.xml');">
Add BUMPzee! to Search Providers now!</a>
If you have an external Javascript include where you have your javascript functions (what you should), simply add the code below in there, but without the surrounding <script> tag.
If you don't have that and don't know what I am talking about, don't worry, simply grab the code and paste it into the page(s) where you added the html code from above. The best place would be to add it between the <head> and </head> tags, but adding it between <body> and </body> will also work just fine.
<script language=JavaScript> function IE7Add2SP(strAddURI) { try{ window.external.AddSearchProvider(strAddURI); } catch(eX){ if (70 == (eX.number & 0xFFFF)){ alert("Click OK and then use the mouse\n or the Enter key to click the install button."); } else { alert("Error. This feature requires MS Internet Explorer 7. [" + (eX.number & 0xFFFF) + "]"); }} return false; } </script>
Copy the code below and save it into a file with the name "IE7-Bumpzee-SearchProvider.xml" and copy that file into the root of your website where you want to make this feature available.
You can also get the XML code here in text format and save that. Make sure that you rename the saved file from .txt to .xml.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <OpenSearchDescription xmlns="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/"> <ShortName>BUMPzee!</ShortName> <Description>Blog communities, RSS reader, social network at BUMPzee.com</Description> <InputEncoding>UTF-8</InputEncoding> <Url type="text/html"
template="http://www.bumpzee.com/search?keyword={searchTerms}&category=entries"/> <SyndicationRight>limited</SyndicationRight> <Tags>BUMPzee blog communities RSS reader social network</Tags> <Query role="example" searchTerms="affiliate marketing" /> </OpenSearchDescription>
Note: IE uses the opensearch definition format. The URL in the XML file to http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/ is outdated. The project moved to http://www.opensearch.org/Specifications/OpenSearch/1.1, but you have to use the old URL or IE will reject the request.
The default search is for entries. To change that, modify the <Url> attribute. Search for the "template" property with the BUMPzee.com URL as value. The URL has a parameter called "category" like this: ..&category=entries...
Following values are valid for "category":
Now there is a "quick and dirty" version which does not require part 2, the JavaScript code, but it would be okay, if the additional JavaScript code is simply too much for you.
Like in step 1. do you have to change www.domain.com and the rest of the URL to the location of the XML file from step 3. Also here, make sure that there is no line break if you add it to your code. The breaks in the code below were only added to make it fit on the page.
<a href="#" onclick="try{window.external.AddSearchProvider('http://www.domain.com/
IE7-Bumpzee-SearchProvider.xml')}catch(eX){if(70==(eX.number & 0xFFFF)){alert('Install');}else
{alert('not supported!');return false;}};">Add BUMPzee! to Search Providers now!</a>
It works too, as you can see in this example: Add BUMPzee! to Search Providers now!
