Be careful with using the following tools or services. Read the intro text of the following paragraph for the reasons. I refer to the search engine submission tools and services in particular. It is a bit different story with the RSS submission tools.

Manual Submission to Search Engines or Directories

The need for manual submissions is really a thing from the past and I would not recommend to use them. However, the forms at search engines still exist and work and people are looking for them for one reason or another.
If you have a new site and want to get your site found by the search engines and get your site crawled by their spiders, go out there and get inbound links to your site from another website that is being crawled and already indexed in the search engines. A easy way to get those inbound links is the submission of your site to the major directories that are known to be accepted by the search engines as quality directory. Don't put your links on "free for all" (FFA) link farms or low quality directory. You can find a list of quality directories in the next paragraph on this page. Except for Dmoz and one or two others, require all directories a few for reviewing your site submission. It seems to look like a lot of money, but it is IMO worth the investment.
Search engines will find your site naturally, if their crawler finds a link to it on another website, what some believe to be benefital compared to being "found" via the submission form or if you submit a sitemap to the engines.
